One more time

Going fishing today. One day I'll catch the tide right, the past two times we had higher than normal outgoing tides. I want to catch the tide coming in because the flounder are running.

Pictures! I want to see pictures of dead fish!

Will this be kayak fishing? You mention flounder, so I am assuming you will be in salt water. How big are your flounder.

Locally we have California halibut, with a maximum length of 60 inches and weight to 72 pounds but on average locals probably average 12 lbs but I sometimes read of a 30-40 pounder being taken. They must be 22 inches long before they are legal.

Sole & turbot are other common flatfish we have locally and they are mostly sought out by commercial fishing boats. They tend to be pretty small.

I love to fish...but I don't like fishy tasting fish. I enjoy halibut & sole though because they are not fishy tasting. Bonito is a local gamefish that I love catching but I will only eat it if the dark meat is cut out and then only if it is smoked.

It was not to be, my radiator is leaking and I have to replace it.

I'll be glad when November is over. There's a 2 flounder limit during Nov.

I've seen shows about those huge halibut being caught. A guy caught one that weighed 300 pounds while fishing out of a little dingy. They had to shoot the poor fish before landing him in the boat. It was almost as big as the boat! Sorry, I don't mind hauling in a 38" red but a fish that big scares the peewaddle out of me LOL I know how much it hurts when a 15" flounder jumps up out of the ice chest and bites me. I couldn't imagine having a huge one like that jump up.

I can post a picture of my biggest redfish but I don't know how to.

It's really easy MJ, here's how.

1. If you don't have a photobucket account, get one, it's free plus a great place to store pictures in case your computer crashes. Just go to "Photobucket.com" and sign up.

2. Locate the picture on your computer and write down the location, such as "My Pictures-Nov22-011jpg."

3. Go to photobucket and log in. In the center of the screen you will see a Blue bar that says "Upload images and videos" click there.

4. A window will open up and then you navigate to where the picture is like "My pictures-Nov22-011jpg. and double click on the picture, it will upload.

5. You will then see the picture with a title bar so you can title the picture if you want to, if not, just click the gray "Return to Album" bar.

6. When you place your mouse over the picture there will be 4 tags under it The bottom one is an IMG tag, put your cursor right in the IMG box at the beginning of the string of letters and click on it. This will highlight it. Then go up to your toolbar and click on "Edit" the "Copy" under edit.

7. Come here and put your cursor where you want the picture to appear , go to your toolbar and again click "Edit" then "Paste." and your picture will appear. Print this out and try it, it sounds a little complicated but it's not. Soon you will be doing it without looking at the directions.

Here are the kittens that showed up on our doorstep.

Those babies look like my Midget! We brought Midget home last New Year's day. At the time she weighed 1 pound 4 oz and was 3 1/2 months old. Midgie was born during Ike. This I know for a fact since she came from my daughter AK8's house. She now weighs a whopping 6 3/4 pounds.

It did! This is my Midget. In this photo she's a year old doing her famous stare. She only stares at me LOL Will sit forever just staring at me.

This is the 38" red I caught back in June at Rollover. Took me 25 minutes to bring her in. Soon as we got pictures hubby put her back in the water. After a few minutes of swishing her back and forth she took off. We never keep reds this size even tho we can with the tags. They are females and the breeding stock. I want her to go make more babies for me to catch!

sure was easy! That red is one of 3 I've caught. I'll post the last one that a shark wanted as a snack LOL

I caught this one at the Wildlife Refuge back in late Sept. She was 37". Guess a shark wanted her for a snack! She had matching bite marks on the other side. Or maybe it was a gator, who knows. Doesn't look like prop damage but it could be. I like to think it was a ahark and she won the battle.

Yep, that's a shark bite, a small one.

Next question. How to put an avatar by my name?

Anytime that you are signed on at the top of the screen you will see "Profile" click there and you will see "Avatar."

You have several choices, one being "upload picture from my computer, another being "Upload avatar from an URL", and still another saying "Link to an offsite avatar." (such as that tag in photobucket.

They also of course have the generic "Select avatar from our gallery" which in our place is pretty good. It's not those silly cartoon characters but real photos of Hollywood stars.

Reds are very good to eat! I like the smaller ones. I fry them, bake them. broil them, grill them (Lord I'm starting to sound like Bubba from Forrest Gump LOL) The best eating ones are the illegal size.

Well the new radiator is in along with new hoses and a thermostat. I think I set the all time record with 223,000 miles on the original fuel filter, got it changed as well.

So.... tomorrow if the Lord is willing I will finally get my fishing trip in and hopefully willl find a flounder or two. My wife may go with me, according to how she feels. I hope so, she did have a good time the time she went with me.

I keep loading my kayak and going to Pleasure Island hoping for an incoming tide but the past three times it has been going out and I move on. I did fish the levee road for a short while and caught a black drum which a guy wanted. Figured the flounder were deep so tried the ship channel from the shore. The wind was howling about 30 MPH and I said "screw this" and went and looked at Kieth Lake. Found a good place to launch but with the wind I moved on to Mud Lake.

I have learned that even the smallest disturbance of the surface can and usually does mean redfish. I saw a small pop and caught a good slot red. Kept getting hits but the oyster reef was playing snag with my line so I put on a popping cork and snagged a big Sheeps Head and tossed him back. Several dinks later, the bite stopped and I went to Texas Bayou. The tide was moving out at a good rate, not too fast. I was approaching the bayou through a small marsh cut and saw the movement on the surface again. Stabbed my stakeout stick into the mud and and kept getting black drum so I switched from a chartruese Gulp grub to a Gulp New Penny Shrimp.

I tipped it with a piece of dead shrimp and was getting a hit or a fish on every cast. As soon as the shrimp was stolen, they wouldn't hit it. I swear I must have caught between 20 and 30 rat reds and black drum. Got another slot red and looked at my watch and thought I'd leave at 4:00PM. Right at 4:00 I got a strong 26 inch red.



I didn't notice it until I got back to the launch but this guy only had one eye. Probably an old injury from a hook when he was caught and released as a pup. It healed.

I've caught reds and specks with half their gill plates missing. These don't look like injuries but birth defects. Who knows what caused it. With all the polution in the water it could be anything.

Fishing down here has been hit or miss with all the fresh water coming down the Trinity. Lots of nice blue cats to be caught under the hill here in Anahuac. Probably even more at the Wallisville dam. Monday I caught 3 nice cats but gave them away.

A friend caught a limit of specs wading at the Wildlife Refuge. We started to go out there but decided to stay closer to home.

Are those reds with the black spot near the base of their tails?

Nope, went to my sisters house and ate like a hog. I have to work days for the next three and should get Monday off so I won't be around much till then.
