Deep Freeze

Wow seems the whole country is in a deep freeze or has some type of challenging weather about now.
Our pond is frozen on top but the waterfall is still running keeping water open near the falls.
Really cold here in North Central Illinois. -1' lots of wind making a windchill of -22.
Took the day off today didn't want to slide on ice...
Of course the dog still wants to go out and play.

How is where you are???

Yup, it's winter in Michigan too. The snowblowers and shovels are getting a workout. And the furnace seems to be coming on more than normal. We keep it at 67 during the day and 60 at night. Our house is kind of spread out so I put a sheet over the doorway into the living room and shut off the registers there and our bedroom. We have a bedroom that we turned into a den when that kid moved out. It's 16 right now at 7PM.

It's 45 here! And I thought THAT was cold! I'm not sure what the wind chill factor is though. The wind is pretty strong. I guess I'd never survive the winter y'all are having!
I can take the heat here in the summer, but I just can't stand the cold!

And our dogter(dog daughter)wanted me to go outside and play with her today! I don't think so!

I can handle the cold much better than the heat.

That's exactly what I say, Freddie!!

Rosebud, Bartender and I all live close together so 40's at the worse. I hate the cold.

After Yesterday's low of -3 and kinda windy, today almost felt like a heatwave at 19 without wind.

Today in Tacoma it actually got up to 62*F on my deck that faces south in to the almost visible sun. I also did some more early spring clean up around my pond. Come on sunny days............

I'm so jelious...spring in Feb??? It was in the low 20's today but with wind chills it felt like the single digits. Bbbrrrrr..... I won't be doing early spring clean up until sometime in April...and sometimes in April we still get snow

What amazes me is that all of my water lilies are sending up lily pads. Most of them are breaking the surface, and the rest are start send up shoots.

I really like the feel of the sun in my face.

I think one of the reasons I haven't had a heron problem is that my pond is usually well covered with lily pads.

My ware lilies grow the same as yours, I just didn't carify what I was trying to say. Right now, everything in my pond is in full view. When I repotted all of my pond plants the other day, the water was so cloudy that I couldn't even see my fish. The next day the water was crystal clear again, and all I am running is my skimmer/pre-filter.

So far, the only heron I have seen were last summer. They circled, but didn't land.

a nice thick layer of ice and snow keeps the herons away too

I'll vote for no snow, and clear pond water along with the lily pads.
