The dog's name was Krypto. Don't recall the debut date though.

Pa (Franklin Kettle, played by Percy Kilbride) is a gentle, slow-speaking, slow-thinking and lazy man. His only talents appear to be avoiding work and winning contests. Ma (Phoebe Kettle, played by Marjorie Main) is a robust country woman with a potato sack figure, raucous, more ambitious and smarter than Pa, but not by much, and can easily be fooled. She is content with her role as mother to fifteen rambunctious, mischievous children on their ramshackle farm in rural Cape Flattery, Washington State. Because she has so many children, Ma Kettle sometimes gets their names confused. A misspelled sign "Be-ware of childrun" is posted in front of the farmhouse to warn unwanted visitors of hurled rocks, projectiles from slingshots, pea shooters and other missiles from the rowdy and unpredictable Kettle brood.

I was around 6yo when it happened. I remember that I was sick at home, a blood disorder brought on by complications of german measles, when it was announced on tv.

I think I was in the 8th grade in my Language Arts class when they told us and all the girls were crying. I saved the newspaper from that day and I think I may still have it.

What was the name of the frog that stole a 68 GTO and hauled ass to the Dallas State Fair when he was 13 years old? It got stuck in 3rd gear and he had to dump it. He was trying to steal a 54 Chevy when he has arrested and placed in jail in Louisiana and was served squirrel and dumplings cooked by the police Chief's wife?

Hint... he later served 11 months in reform school as a child.

I didn't trash it, it got stuck in 3rd. and I left it in an alley. That was the only jail that I ever ate squirrel and dumplings in. I was the only one in there and he and his wife shared their supper.

jw....Today I found volume 1 and 2 discs with Ma and Pa Kettle. I never knew that the first movie they were in was really a movie starring Fred McMurray and Claudette Colbert. Watching that show really brought back memories about the good, old times when movies were made for the whole family to watch and one didn't have to screen it for language or gore.

Where in the heck did you find the discs for Ma and Pa Kettle? They were really a pair weren't they. I wish they would play them on tv sometime. Maybe I can find them somewhere on the internet to watch.

They have a store down here called Suncoast that had them. $14.95 each with 4 episodes per disc. If you have a FYE up there, they can order them.

That was in my wayward youth. I have long since settled down.
