Today we received an invitation to a wedding. First off, we didn't right away know who it was from. So after hemming and hawing, we wondered if he could be the son of a couple who attend our church but they are much younger than us so we have never socialized with them, let alone know the boy/young man. The only reason we have ever spoken to the boy was when we had hired his dad's garage door company to install a couple of doors in one of the duplexes and one door here and the kid did them. We like the parents and whenever come in contact with them, can talk for hours like we're good friends but that has only happened in church, at their company, once in Home Depot and at the duplex. I don't know if I'd recognize the boy if I ran into him at the mall. Oh I looked him up in our church directory and sure enough, there he was.

NOWWWW!!! These folks are very decent people, faithful in church attendance, do good work installing the doors, not the type you'd expect to invite us just to get a present. We aren't going to the wedding but thought I'd do up a set of monogrammed towels with the embroidery machine seeing I have several sets here just waiting for a home.

I just happened to think======we kinda owe them though. I had hired the dad to go to my son's house about an hour drive north to see if he could make their garage door work right. That was wnen my grandson was so sick with cancer. So Randy put in a new garage door opener and adjusted and reinforced the door and said it was their gift to my son's family because of course they were in a bad way financially then.

OK, just answered my own question. I'll do them a set of towels and mail it to them.

They could have added your names to the invitation list just because they have enjoyed the conversations you've had in the past, even though they haven't been frequent.

Or, if the wedding will be at your church it's possible they've invited the congregation as a whole too, some people do that, particularly if it's not a really large church.

The towels sound like a nice idea.

I think your personally monogrammed towels would be a lovely gift - especially since you are not attending the wedding.

I think they invited you because they truly like you and enjoy your company and think of you as friends.

The towels sound like a nice gift, and they sound like the kind of people who will appreciate your time and effort.

Never thought of that.

I just went to the bridal registry at Bed Bath & Beyond and learned she wants Saphire blue and/or navy towels and that she asked for Chrome dispensers etc. So I'm doing the blue towels with silver thread. Funny thing though as I'm thinking about how to do the monogram-----lady's first initial medium size, their last initial large ending with his first initial medium. So it is mOm. LOL Now I don't know what to do. Maybe do just O.

I think just the O would be best. But even that may look kind of strange. Blue & silver will be beautiful! Maybe you could do "His" & "Hers" instead of their initials. ex[idea]

My plan would be to go to the wedding, proceed to get drunk, and probably make a fool of myself, embarrass Mrs. Peepers and possibly forget who even got married............

Just kidding, I like the "his and hers" idea too

Originally I always lean towards personalizing it. You know how proud the young gals are to have something with her new name on or initial. But this time I'm stuck. LOL.
