I have been purchasing filter media of different sizes and sorts for several from this location. They also have other stuff. They ship quickly and I like their media. It lasts forever.

Why did I put that there anyways??? What I meant was www.krewkut.com. Make more sense JW?

I have been fortunate enough to find what I need at a pond supply about a mile & a half away called 'Oaktree Ponds'. I bought my real course (white) filter medium form them, and the rest at Lowe's in the furnace filter dept. I have been able to find that I can cut all of my filter pads to size based upon the need for each application.

Happy ponding, ex[baghead]

Yep that makes more sense Esther and I use the dark green and the black coarse filter media from a pond supply place close to my house also. The stuff lasts forever! All I have to do is pull out the pot and take out the filter pads and rinse off and put it all back. It's just that it has to be a small pot so I can lift it out.

The filter media I use in my skimmer/pre-filter is white and real course. I can almost see through it. It rinses real easy, and like JW's it seems to last for a long time. I take it out, and rinse it. Then drop it back into the basket that holds it in place.

With the Shubunkins spawning and chasing each other around the pond, they have things rather stirred up lately. I have to check and rinse the pre-filter almost every day right now.

Happy ponding,

Yes, first I have brushes that catch anything tangly or leaves. Then is a layer of the course and then a double layer that gets out the fines.

Maybe I need to make some modifications to my skimmer/pre-filter. I have a few ideas. I'll have to make some sketches and take pictures of my progress.

Happy ponding,

Yes please show us what you come up with. Who knows maybe someday I will be able to build a new one for my pond that is much more efficient and easier to maintain than the prehistoric one that I have right now. I am viewing all you guys ideas and doing lots of thinking so that when that day comes I'll have the right ways to do mine ex[nod]
