Yes, you are right. There is more than one kind of mom or grandma. Back when we were fixing up one of the units of our duplex, I heard a lot of yelling and screaming outside. So being the snoopy person I am, I went to the window to see a girl about 12-13 tussling with a boy much smaller and looked younger. There were several kids standing looking but seemed frozen and weren't doing anything. I didn't even think, I dashed out the door yelling, "Hey what's going on?" and I don't know what else. The girl ran, of course much faster than this old lady and when I got there the kids were all telling that this girl had it in for this boy and was always picking on him. I turned to the boy and said, "Are you OK?" He said, "She bit me." I was aghast!!! Innocent old me has never physically fought with anybody ever--well maybe a little bit with my kids when they were small to get them to behave. So the kid shows me his arm and sure enough you could plainly see a full mouth bite. It wasn't really bleeding but the surface of the bite looked bloody. I figured his parents were working and was visualizing this girl being infected with something that she could pass to him by the bite so I asked the boy where he lived and was his mom home. He said he lived with his dad and he would be home. I told him to tell him. He said he didn't want to get in trouble. I gave him my name and phone number and said to give it to his dad if he needed any proof of what happened and I made him promise he would tell his dad. I told him she may have a "disease" that she could pass to him in the bite and that is why I thought it was soooooo important for him to tell an adult. The next day I watched for the kids to get off the bus and when I saw the boy I went out there and called to him. He said his dad had taken him to the med center and the arm was black and blue around the bite. I never knew anything more about that but I told Pete that if I lived there, I'd be the grandma of the neighborhood and probably end up being harrassed and killed because I was sticking my nose in other people's business.

Another time I saw a young man/older teenager waiting at the corner. Then a great big black car with hot pink fenders stopped. The kid went around the car and got in the back seat on the other side and the car pulled away. I thought it was so odd that if the kid was waiting for a ride that he didn't get in the car on the side closest to him. Later I was telling this to the black guy who lived in the other side of the duplex, and he says, "Yah, drug dealer." I about fell over to realize I had witnessed something like that and didn't even think much of it. Then I was mad that I hadn't taken down the license number and called the police.

Guess I'm just saying that it doesn't take an actual MOM to mother other people or creatures. We just need to take more responsibility to help the people around us, maybe not with money always, but pick up that piece of paper blowing around the parking lot and for sure clean up behind ourselves and try to make life easier for the other guy.
