Man kills dog, runs naked in tennis club

SAN CLEMENTE – What started out as a call about a loud radio early this morning ended with the arrest of a nude 23-year-old man who officials suspect killed a family dog with his bare hands, then poured hot coffee on his head while running naked in a tennis club, authorities said.

Investigators suspect that the San Clemente man was under the influence of drugs when the pandemonium began shortly after 4:30 a.m., when deputies tried to contact him at his apartment.

Deputies were called to an apartment building in the 1100 block of Calle del Cerro because of a loud radio, said Jim Amormino, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff's Department. When deputies arrived, however, no one was there.

"We get there, go in the room, the guy is gone," he said.

Authorities believe the resident jumped from a third-story window when deputies arrived.

Deputies looked around for him and couldn't find him, Amormino said.

The man appeared to have turned up at 6:09 a.m., Amormino said, when dispatchers received a call from a frantic woman who said her dog was violently attacked.

The woman said she was walking her 5-year-old mini schnauzer when a man grabbed her dog and started to choke it. The man repeatedly hit the dog, choked it, and slammed the dog onto the sidewalk, killing it, Amormino said.

Minutes later, authorities received another call. This time, a caller reported that a man was running naked in the Rancho San Clemente Tennis Club, 111 Vista Montana.

The man was seen pouring hot coffee on his head, according to officials.

Deputies believe that the man, who was taken into custody at the club, was an employee there, Amormino said.

He was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he will be evaluated.

"He may have been under the influence of drugs," he said.

The man's identity has not yet been released.

"He may have been under the influence of drugs," ... Well Duh! What was the 1st clue? Jumping from the 3rd floor window? Strangling and killing someone's pet? Running around bare-ass naked? Or, pouring hot coffee on his head?

I keep saying, I lead such a boring life. Never did that and never saw anybody doing any of it.
