“What is even better is the fact that when George W. Bush heard about Fort Hood, he got in his car without any escort, apparently they did not have time to react, and drove to Fort Hood. He was stopped at the gate and the guard could not believe who he had just stopped. Bush only ask for directions to the hospital then drove on. The gate guard called that "The president Is on Fort Hood and driving to the hospital." The base went bananas looking for Obama. When they found it was Bush they immediately offered escort and Bush simply told them to shut up and let him visit the wounded and the dependents of the dead. He stayed at Fort Hood for over six hours and was finally asked to leave by a message from the White House. Obama flew in days later and held a "photo " session in a gym and did not even go to the hospital. All this I picked up from two soldiers here who happened to be at Fort Hood when it happened.

This Bush/Obama/Ft.Hood story is something that should be sent to every voter in the US. The doctor had his tv on in his office when the news of the military base shootings came on. The husband of one of his employees was stationed there. He called her into his office and as he told her what had happened, she got a text message from her husband saying, "I am okay." Her cell phone rang right after she read the message. It was an ER nurse, "I'm the one who just sent you a text, not your husband. I thought it would be comforting but I was mistaken in doing so. I am sorry to tell you this, but your husband has been shot 4 times and he is in surgery."

The soldier's wife left Southern Clinic in Dothan and drove all night to Ft.Hood. When she arrived, she found out her husband was out of surgery and would be OK. She rushed to his room and found that he already had visitors there to comfort him. He was just waking up and found his wife and the visitors by his side The nurse took this picture.

What? No news crews and cameras? This is how people with class respond and pay respect to those in uniform.”

President Bush is a man of class. One of the reserve officers from our department was wounded in Iraq several years ago and while re-cooperating President Bush visited him and others in the hospital. He said there was only a White House photographer, and no press. He said Bush was very humble and down to earth.

The problem I see with the above report is that it appears it is already being enhanced to include stuff that did not happen. This is too bad because such enhancement only serves to discredit the incident by becoming an urban legend.

What caught my immediate attention was the statement that implies that Bush immediately left for the base without secret service personnel upon hearing about the incident. He wouldn't do that. He would know he would only add to the problem and he certainly would not leave without informing his detail. So I spent some time on Google reviewing reports of this incident and the first news reports are dated November 7 and state the President went to the fort with his secret service detail the previous evening (November 6). The shooting occurred on November 5. I saw nothing stating the White House asked him to leave. What is true is that he asked for no publicity .........oh, and he didn't do any shout-outs......

Guess I didn't realize previous presidents still had to have a detail of secret service protection guys. Sad huh? I got that picture on an email that is making the rounds and of course didn't post it on AP, political you know. I didn't send it on anywhere either but still am proud of Bush. He just looks like somebody I'd like to know even if he wasn't president.

Yes, I think history will eventually record him as a great president, although I doubt that he really cares.

I agree that history will record Bush as a great President. I wish he would have stood up for himself more amid the unfair and untrue accusations that the liberals threw at him and people started believing because that is what they heard over and over and (he lied etc...).

I agree that he and Laura both had a lot of class. Laura was such a wonderful first lady and she didn't get the attention that Michelle Obama is getting (I agree, Mickey - not that they care)

My cousin and family got transferred to Dallas a few years ago. I was joking when I asked my aunt if they had seen George or Laura around. My cousin and her husband value education for their kids and sacrifice to put them in the best schools and the boys are very good students and are in accelerated classes and LOVE school. My aunt told me that my cousin's boys are the "poor" kids in the school. My cousin went to pick her son up at one of his friends house after a party or sleep over or something and it was in the gated community where the Bushes now live. I told my cousin that if she ever runs into them to tell them thank you.

And I suspect that their reaction would be to almost blush and say "Oh shaw. It was nothin'"
