He was the supervisor of the central supply department of a large Nursing Home until October last year. The NH sold to new owner's who eliminated his position so he wasn't retained. From what we've learned about the management of that particular company this was not a bad thing overall because he likely would have wanted to quit in short order if he had been retained.
At least this way for a while he's getting unemployment. However unless the government continues with the unemployment extensions they've been doing it won't be enough to span until he can collect Social Security (1 year 4 months to go) We can't count on the extensions happening, so this is the reason he needs to find work most of all.
My job was retained by the old healthcare company when the NH sold, I'm in a clerical position in the finance department, cleaning up the A/R and also do insurance billing for a couple other homes owned by the same company, but it's not guaranteed that's going to last forever either. Plus I don't make enough to meet all the monthly household expenses on my own.
He'd like to find something like that again, or some sort of buying position somewhere. He has a degree in business management, and has mostly worked in some sort of a buying position.
