Made a bigger plant ring float for the pondplants on Mon Sep 06, 2010 6:25 pm
Yesterday I made a larger plant ring floater so I can put my Anacharis and other floating oxygenater plants in there so the fish can't eat it all. I had some black pvc tubing 1&1/2" or 1&3/4" left over and some plastic connectors. I had to buy the plastic screen door material for the sides and bottom....$20.but it should last a long time. I wanted it to be straight down on the sides this time with a round bottom so I had to sew it all together in pieces w/ heavy duty fish line. It's about 4ft wide and 9" deep. Now some of the fish do tend to jump over the rim on these things but at least it's not the whole lot of them at once in there munching on the plants. The fish can also hide under the floaters from predators like the Heron.

They like to re-arrange everything into one big mess
But maybe there are ways of putting the plants in so they can't get at them. The floating plant rings and individual pot float rings might work
Or bog gardens are wonderful
