Should Members of Senate & Congress Have The Same Government Run Health Care Plan?

Congressman John Fleming ( Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt).

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and sign his petition (very simple - everything is optional except for a e-mail address and your yes/no opinion).

http://fleming.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=55&sectiontree=29,55

If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congressmen should have to accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families.

Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

The various health proposals have billions of payoffs going to Obama supporters. It's typical Chicago politics at work in this administration. Based upon the competency of the radicals and flakes that Obama has surrounded himself with I predict (and I hope I'm wrong) that he will be the worst president in American history.

I sadly believe America has reached her pinnacle and she is on a quick decline.

Who would believe that we would have a worse president than Jimmy Carter? It shows that we have become "sheeple". We do not vet a canidate's characher but rely on the media (even though they are liberal and push their canidate). I hope that this is a lesson to us. I hope that Obama is a blessing is disguise to spur us to take back our country and remember what seperates us from the rest of the world and made us a great nation.

If this health care thing becomes law, and everyone is forced to take part, then how can some not also be forced to use it?

The democrats are in control. They are clearly enforcing their will on the people. People are shouting out loud that they don't want this health plan yet they continue forward. The speaker of the house calls those against the health care plan Nazis. They have taken control of the auto industry and banks. Now they want you. They will take your money and give it to whom they please. They have bankrupted the country and the economy. Next up; global warming. Even though global warming has been exposed as a myth, don't be surprised to see legislation coming that will change our way of life. If the people are smart, they would vote every democrat out of office the next several election cycles. I just don't think the people are smart enough to do it.

Am I imagining things? I thought Obama said while he was campaigning that everyone would have the same health care plan that senators and congressman had.

Now they keep their plan and we will be forced into the govt. run public option??? :[IMG]/confused He's saying that we can keep our plan if we are happy but there are stipulations like if you make a change, or change jobs etc. you will go to the public option.

ABSOLUTELY!
Congress should have the same health care they are trying to
push through for the American people!
In fact, they should be the first to have it!
We need to eliminate their current medical insurance provisions and place them on the new system asap.
They have had it too good for too long!

btw:
WHY should one state be given extra funds for medicaid/medicare than another?
That should be illegal!
Some of the Congress members have been promised just that
if they agree to vote for the health plan proposed.

The seniors who built this great country are going to be the first and worst to get screwed. They will see long waiting periods and rationed care so the young, unproductive and unemployed can have health care never having paid a dime into it.

There will be a $750.00 fine the first time they go to the hospital as they frequently do without insurance because the hospital can't turn them away. It has been working like this for years but now they will be stealing the money from our seniors, our veterans. They will roll the dice and go anyway, if they can't pay the fine they sit it out in jail with free health care paid by you and I.

How's that hope and change working out for you?

Makes me SICK! This administration is hell bent to get this socialist system in place. They are paying off senators and congressmen with perks for their states to get their yes vote. The people are screeming that they do not want this health care plan but our president gets in fromt of the cameras with that smug look on his face and keeps telling us we are getting the "reform" we want and need. ex[stormcloud] Oh there goes my blood pressure. I better get off this subject. I have a funny feeling that having a health issue may soon be a very bad thing.

PS I sure as hell didn't vote for him. I saw what a bad penny he was desipite all the white washing his PR team did to cover up his radical views and past.

And why do you think the system we have now is working?

I'm already forced to have health insurance by my employer and it has me in so much debt its not even funny.
It's a condition of employment for me. They changed insurance companies in August and now we have crappy insurance with a $2,000 deductible. I basically pay $250 a month to just keep my job and have health insurance that I can't afford to use. My husband had a cardiac issue in september that he had to go to the ER for. The insurance didn't pay a damn dime of it and I'm left holding the bill for $1,700! Right now I can't afford to pay the HMO the amount they want per month to pay towards what I owe them so they are threatening to cancel my insurance and if that happens I could lose my job. So how much sense does that make to pay the insurance company $250 per month and then they don't pay a damn thing on claims because the deductible is so high?!
Several other people I work with cannot afford to use it and they have asked our employer to release them from carrying it so they can use the low-cost health clinic in town but so far our employer has refused.

That is what angers me and this is the kind of BS that has to change with healthcare reform. It has to!!ex[explode]

We have to start somewhere. The healthcare system does need to be overhauled whether there is a government option or not.

When a house gets tired and starts falling apart one does a remodel. One doesn't take a bulldozer to it and level it. A bulldozer is being taken to our existing health care system, which works quite nicely for millions and millions, and it will be completely replaced with something totally foreign and we really don't know what we will get nor how many trillions it will cost.

The president is a Harvard trained liar. Have you noticed how our lawyer president is protecting the trial lawyers? There is no tort legislation.

Social Security will be bankrupt in several years with Medicare to follow. How can our nation possibly run health care? The government gets bigger and bigger. Who will pay to run government when the private sector is gone?

That is unfortunately your employer causing you those problems. Why he has insisted that you buy his plan is beyond me. Have you checked to see if that is legal in your state. I have never heard of such a thing.

Just because you are not happy with your system doesn't mean that we need government run health care. There are some changes that need to be made to keep it affordable but what the administration is proposing is absurd. They want to force you to buy healthcare and if you don't you will pay a penalty. You think you have it bad now - just wait and see how much worse it will get with obama care.

In the meantime I hope that your employer has a change of heart. He must be benefiting somehow. Maybe he needs so many participents and that is why he is forcing employees take the plan that he is offering. I wonder if he is paying any premiums. I think maybe not. I would be looking for another job. Those benefits suck.

I still am in disbelief that this thing passed. Can there be that many stupid people running our country? Obviously so.

Oh, they are not stupid, Bullfrog. They are dishonest and not representing the people they were elected to serve. A huge majority of the people do not want THIS bill ** and yet they are voting THEIR will, not the people they represent and they are lying. Remember part of this bill is that they don't have to take this plan that they are forcing us into. They get to keep their superior health care plan.

My employer won't budge. They have always required that full time employees carry the health insurance. When we were on Aetna it wasn't so bad, we had good insurance and it was reasonably affordable. This year they changed to a Colorado HMO that is a rip-off. And yes, they can legally do it. We have to carry it or prove we are carrying comparable health insurance through a spouse.
Very few people like this HMO we are on now, its known for putting people in so much debt its not even funny. People call it the Rocky Mountain Bendover Health Plan.
I've had to deal with the healthcare system for years with some of DH's health issues and its been a nightmare. Its not just the employer, its the insurance companies too.
I feel that so many people that are yelling and screaming about the government being involved in healthcare have never had to fight the insurance company they pay in order to get claims covered and I'm guessing they've never been brought to their knees financially because of it.
As an EMT I also see how people are struggling and our service is seeing more and more transports that will never be paid because people do not have health insurance and no means to pay for an $800-$1,000 ambulance ride. How long do you think the healthcare system can keep supporting that?
Perhaps what is on the table now is not the perfect answer but something does have to change and change soon.
But, I can see that people are going to do nothing but fight about it rather than come to some type of solution that will help the people out there that really need it.

What we really need is a GREAT BIG POT. Then any income from everybody is put in the pot. Then from the pot, we'll be provided with furnished homes, utilities, cars, health care, clothes, education, parks, roads, postoffice service, computers and service, retirement, burial, and each month a chunk of cash so we can purchase food including, McDonalds etc. After all the money that I have worked hard to earn in the last 49 years is not mine anyway to decide what to do with. And everyone deserves all of the aforementioned stuff. So why not let the government decide how to use my money totally. I certainly don't seem to be doing a good job with it according to them.

I already have my bridge picked out where I want to live.

Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that we will immediately see an increase in our taxes to pay for this albatross but this bill working its way through the Senate will not pay out its benefits to you until 2013.

Two questions:

Why such a rush to ram through an extremely expensive and extremely questionable bill when its major portions don't take effect for 3 years?

If it is such a good bill then why have some Democrat Senators been bribed with special favors for their state if they vote yes....?

Good questions, Mikey. I think the majority of people know this but this socialist/marxist administration is determined to ram their agenda down our throats and force us to live under their beliefs before they lose their majority next year. I think we are getting a taste of how people in communist countries live. I wonder if we will continue to yell and scream about it or lay down and become complacient?

You know, it's funny, they say there isn't enough social security to keep going after a certain point. Well, how can they add this humungous debit to the budget and expect it to be funded and kept funded without a corresponding humungous tax?
