Got this in an e-mail today. I can't verify if all the brands mentioned are made where claimed but it is a good principle to keep in mind. I'm am going to start paying more attention the next time I shop. Fishlips

One Light Bulb at a Time

A physics teacher in high school, once told the students that while
one grasshopper on the railroad tracks wouldn't slow a train very
much, a billion of them would. With that thought in mind, read the
following, obviously written by a good American.

I was in Lowes the other day for some reason and just for the heck of it I was looking at the hose attachments. They were all made in China. The next day I was in Ace Hardware and just for the heck of it I checked the hose attachments there. They were made in USA. Start looking...

In our current economic situation, every little thing we buy or do affects someone else - even their job. So, after reading this email, I think this lady is on the right track. Let's get behind her!

My grandson likes Hershey's candy. I noticed, though, that it is marked made in Mexico now. I do not buy it any more.

My favorite toothpaste Colgate is made in Mexico... now I have switched to Crest. You have to read the labels on everything.

This past weekend I was at Kroger. I needed 60 W light bulbs and Bounce dryer sheets. I was in the light bulb aisle, and right next to the GE brand I normally buy was an off-brand labeled, "Everyday Value." I picked up both types of bulbs and compared the stats - they
were the same except for the price. The GE bulbs were more money than the Everyday Value brand but the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that GE was made in MEXICO and the Everyday Value
brand was made in - get ready for this - the USA in a company in Cleveland, Ohio.

So throw out the myth that you cannot find products you use every day that are made right here.

So on to another aisle - Bounce Dryer Sheets...yep, you guessed it, bounce cost more money and is made in Canada . The Everyday Value
brand was less money and MADE IN THE USA! I did laundry yesterday and the dryer sheets performed just like the Bounce Free I have been
using for years and at almost half the price!

My challenge to you is to start reading the labels when you shop for
everyday things and see what you can find that is made in the USA -
the job you save may be your own or your neighbors!

If you accept the challenge, pass this on to others in your address book
so we can all start buying American, one light bulb at a time!

Stop buying from overseas companies!
(We should have awakened a decade ago.)
Let's get with the program...help our fellow Americans keep
their jobs and create more jobs here in the U. S. A.

Great post! I'm a firm believer in buying American. If I had the money, I would love to start up a company called "American Made" or something similar and only sell products where 80-100% of the product must have been made in America in order to be sold in the store.

One reason, of several, that I normally will not shop at WalMart is because the vast majority of their products are not made in America. I am willing to pay more for American made products.

I use Colgate tooth paste probably because when I go to the dentist they always give away a free small tube of the stuff.... I looked on my full size tube and it only gave the distributor as being in NY, however, I found another tube still in the box and it does say "Made in USA".

I next looked at my bar soap "Lever 2000". It only gave the location of the company in Connecticut and it did not say where it is made.

One thing for certain is that if you are going to look for where the product is made you better bring along a magnifying glass.......

That's for sure, Mikey. I will not give my pets anything made in China. My dog LOVED the chicken jerky strips I used to get at Costco. She would do anything for them. The brand they carried at the time was Benne & Penni. The package gave a address in California. One day I found "Made in China" printed very tiny & hidden below the bar code. No more jerky. The CA company just marketed and distributed the junk.

I have heard that different stores carry products made in different countries. I know that most large manufactures have plants all over the world but I had always thought that the products amde there be sold in those areas. Someone told me they always bought Coke at Costco because they sold the Coke that was made in Mexico and it was better because they used more sugar syrup. The next time I shop, I am going to check the label on the Coke at my supermarket and then at Costco.

Has anyone else heard this?

Thanks, Mikey. I knew it had something to do with the sugar syrup but I was wrong when I said I thought they used more...it's the kind of sugar syrup.

I'd still like to check Costco the next time I go and see if they are selling US or Mexican made Coke.
